Good News and Photo-grams

I've had replies off four uni's in the past week, one asking for work to be sent to them the other three interviews so I've been concentrating on my portfolio.
However I do have a few photo-grams I wanted to upload. These are developments from my photographs in the previous post.
After printing the original images I experimented using pen and ink.

Final Major Project

I'm now starting my final project for my Foundation course and will document my development here. I've chosen the theme 'The Effects of Time' and one of my first inspirations have been Sam Taylor Wood, Director of 'Nowhere Boy'.
Wood's piece 'Still Life' is based on the still life style adopted by painters during 17th and 18th century.

The contrast between the pen and the fruit in Wood's film has inspired me further. I can use objects in my work that take different amounts of time for a visible change to occur.
I took my first set of images before I came across Wood. However these photographs fit in with my idea of recording different degrees of time throught the reaction of objects.
Here are two of those photographs.

•"There's always soma to calm your anger, to reconcile you to your enemies, to make you patient and long-suffering."

I've been creating more Photoshop collage's on 'Brave New World' and thought I'd upload my latest one. I felt I hadn't portrayed the soma filled 'fantasy' most of the characters live in or retreat to when they cant cope with the horrors of the reality, so this illustrates just that!

Who are you?

Hi,
I'm Claire ;D
Seen as this is my first post I guess I should tell you a little about myself.
I love illustrations, creating my own and viewing others work, my preferred media is ink and dip in pen and I constantly strive to improve my Photoshop skills.
I'm currently studying Foundation Art and Design at Knowesly Community College and have been asked to make this blog to display my work, keep a record and get feed back so please do comment if you feel the urge :)

Below is my most recent piece of work created, based on the book 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley its a mixture of drawings, photographs and Photoshop work. I took the photograph of the skull in the middle, edited it and just kept adding different elements.

The book is set in the future though my images are based on the section where Bernard and Lenina visit the reservation, a place where the old way of life is preserved. When reading this section I thought back to a quote at the beginning of the book, 'Community, Identity, Stability'. These words where used to describe the way of life they had developed outside the reservation(babies grew in bottles, everything down to the recreational activities they enjoy controlled). Their shallow use of these words reflects their shallow way of life and I felt the quote more accurately described life inside the reservation, the people there have their true identity not one which is the result of conditioning and hypnopaedia.
